LAVINGTON, BRITISH COLUMBIA—after receiving all necessary approvals, Pinnacle Renewable Energy Group launched the construction of new pellet plant in Lavington, adjacent to the Tolko sawmill. The contract for the construction of the raw materials bulk-storage MegaDome® buildings has been awarded to BuildWorks.

Pinnacle, the largest wood pellet producer in Canada already operates 6 pellet plants across BC, with a production capacity of well over 1 million tons annually, for a variety of products including softwood pellet fuel, animal bedding, and natural sorbent. The new pellet plant is a joint venture with Tolko Industries.

BuildWorks Construction Inc., the authorized MegaDome® builder and province’s premier supplier of fabric covered buildings for nearly 15 years, has been engaged to design and construct 2 large MegaDome® pre-engineered fabric structures with a 30,000 SF foot-print. For maximum bulk storage capability of sawdust and shavings—a 100% natural and renewable fuel resource—the buildings will be installed on 10 foot high concrete lock-block walls, creating over 10,000 cu. metres of storage capacity.

Construction is slated to start immediately with completion by late summer 2015.

Marine Harvest, a leading salmon aquaculture company in BC, produces one-fifth of the world’s farm-raised salmon at facilities in Norway, Scotland, Canada, Chile, Ireland and the Faroes.

Operating several facilities on Vancouver Island, including a major operation in Seaward, (north of Campbell River, BC) the company contracted with BuildWorks to construct a 14,000 square foot MegaDome® to cover existing fish tanks and a new water filtration system.

It is an important development for a company that already employs 500 people to produce 40,000 tonnes of sustainable Atlantic farm-raised salmon each year in British Columbia alone.

The MegaDome® features an opaque silver roof cover for photo-periodic control, and an interior dividing wall to separate the fish tanks from its state-of-the-art water treatment equipment.

The project was completed by BuildWorks in July 2013.

MACKENZIE, BRITISH COLUMBIA – MegaDome® phoenix rises on the ashes of a collapsed Coverall for Terrane Metals Corp. Mt. Milligan Copper/Gold Project (Thompson Creek) Ore Load-out Facility.

BuildWorks, the authorized BC dealer and builder for fifteen years of MegaDome® engineered fabric covered structures – manufactured in St. Thomas (Joliette), Quebec by Harnois Industries Ltd. – has successfully completed the re-construction of a 9,000 square feet ore load-out facility.

Built in two phases the original Coverall brand structure was constructed for Lomak Bulk Carriers in 2001, with a second phase in 2006. Coverall filed for bankruptcy protection in 2010 after failing to weather building failures through-out North America, most notably the collapse of the Cowboys training facility in Irving, Texas in May 2009 where twelve people were hurt. The existing load-out building in Mackenzie with its wide-spaced trusses collapsed after a winter snow-storm in 2012.

The replacement MegaDome® structure is a completely re-engineered building, furnished with extra heavy duty galvanized-steel clear-span arch frames, and covered with durable FR (fire-resistant) Powershield® translucent tensioned membrane. The existing foundation was re-constructed to support the combined building, snow, wind and bulk storage loads. The result is a functional and energy-efficient facility that is fully compliant with the new BC Building Code, and carries a Certificate of Design and Manufacturing Conformance (CSA A660-10).

The project was completed by BuildWorks in July 2013.

SPARWOOD, BRITISH COLUMBIA –

Fording River flooding interrupted work at the Teck Coal Mine in Sparwood, BC, but did not deter BuildWorks from completing construction of a 11,000 square foot MegaDome® structure in just 21 days, or 14 less than the originally planned project duration.

Teck’s Fording River Operation (located in the Elk Valley in the Rocky Mountains of Eastern BC), is part of Canada’s largest diversified resource company, with major business units focused on copper, steelmaking coal, zinc and energy. A new contaminated waste water treatment solution required a temporary facility suitable for the extreme climate conditions encountered at the mine site. This MegaDome® is part of an overall system design by the Prime Contractor, CH2M Hill— a global leader in consulting, design, and program management, with a global presence of 28,000 employees in regional offices worldwide.

Teck Resources (TSX:TCK.B) and others have partnered with Susan Baldwin, a noted University of British Columbia professor of chemical and biological engineering, who is on a mission to detoxify the often heavily polluted water found at mine sites. Teck provides funding and access to its mine sites for research. This genomics technology could help detoxify mine effluent and tailing ponds.
